The title is conceived as a play on words between ‘dream’ and ‘space’ and reflects Berlit’s interest in dissolving the boundary between the picture plane and actual space.
The picture does not merely have a front; it also interacts with the space in which it is hung. The wall behind the picture can be seen through, and its light, shadows and colour reflections influence the work. Berlit thus conceives of painting as a spatial experience. The viewer’s position further alters the ‘visible image’.
What still appears to be an illusion on the surface is, in fact, space.

Parts of the work are also painted on the back. Reflections appear in these areas as well as on the transparent surfaces. Colored shadows are visible through the transparent surfaces, creating the effect of an additional painterly layer.
