Naqsh Raj (born 1984) is an artist and educator based in Islamabad. She holds a Master’s degree in Fine Arts from the National College of Arts in Lahore and has more than a decade of experience teaching art and design in Pakistan, as well as several years of teaching experience in the United Kingdom.
Her paintings are characterised by a very distinctive style marked by tension. Flowing, organic brushstrokes collide with mechanical, methodical applications of paint, layers of pigment merging with one another: the grid layer becomes a framework of order, the free forms stand as fragments of everyday life and personal memories, and the different “strokes of colour” applied with stencils reveal an instinctive aesthetic and way of life.
