His colorful square patterns are reminiscent of magic cubes that have been cut open and rolled flat. Again and again, Nathan Cohen manages to pull off the old illusory perspective trick of making the surfaces on the wall jump back into the third dimension of cubic space. Yet the London artist cites neither British Op Art nor the playfulness of computer graphics as a source of inspiration for his exhibition at Galerie Braun, but rather the geometric ornaments of North and South American Indian peoples.
