Esther Hagenmaier finds the source material for her work in architectural spaces. The artist’s intensive examination and close scrutiny of the buildings lead to her precisely composed photographs. The composition consists of the precise choice of the visual axis, the perspective and, above all, the image detail.
Through her specific gaze, Hagenmaier robs the depiction of real space of its logic and creates new pictorial spaces.
She abstracts and transforms visible reality and reduces the supposed objectivity of photography to absurdity. The result is an object that extends beyond the original architecture – although it is generated entirely and exclusively from it.
