We are showing works by Diet Sayler (born 1939) that follow an “individualised geometry”, which, for all their constructivist sobriety, gives them a palpable, independent aura. In contrast to constructivist utopias and minimalist anonymity, however, Sayler places subjectivity alongside intuitive power and chance, and he propagates the freedom of colour – it is not the dictate of the primary colours that trumps, but the intermediate tone. From 1992 to 2005 Sayler was a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg.
