Lutzeyer continually explores anew
the inherent nature of colour and the
physical properties of the material – in contrast to the creative process –
as well as the transitions between the material’s own tendency to take shape
and the artist’s deliberate intervention.
In his earlier works, he develops objects, arrangements and
‘fusions’ by adding to a wooden panel using modular basic elements
that have accumulated over time in the studio’s ‘witch’s kitchen’.
A more recent and highly idiosyncratic work is a solid cube made of
pure oil paint. Pre-fabricated elements were pressed into a pre-selected form, a ‘formwork’.
The latest wall piece reverses the creative process. A thick, rectangular ‘paint panel’ was shaped into a relief by pushing and pressing, which in turn creates bulges.
With this style of painting, the artist, born in Stuttgart in 1959, has been writing his own story for around 20 years and is continually adding new chapters. And for just as long, each new development has been presented at the Klaus Braun Gallery and compiled in a catalogue.
