Group of color reliefs
In these paintings, the colors sit in the middle of the picture surface, which remains visible in its surrounding priming tone. Here the colors play out their raw materiality and the brushwork its gripping ductus, with the result that the layers of the painting do not open up into an imaginary depth, but become a color relief that builds up toward the viewer. Here the painting does not open up a view into an imaginary world, but becomes a ‘color-thing’ that enters into a lively exchange with the real space in which it hangs.
