Group Color Reliefs
In these paintings, the colors sit klekshaft in the middle of the picture surface, which remains visible around it in its priming tone. Here the colors play out their raw materiality and the brushwork its gripping ductus, with the result that the pictorial layers do not open up into an imaginary depth, but become a color relief that builds up toward the viewer. The picture here does not open a view into an imaginary world, but becomes a ‘color-thing’ that enters into a lively exchange with the real space in which it hangs.
