EXHIBITION April 2022 (erste bei uns)
Ruri Matsumoto’s current works stem from a large spatial installation she realized in 2012 at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, where she studied with Professor Katherina Grosse. The insights she gained from her work in real space led to a paradigm shift in her painting, which can be read in the new works. In art history and philosophy, the Tokyo-born artist found sources that encouraged her to pursue the path she had taken in her painting with the aforementioned installation. The pointilists Seurat and Signac, for example, had already experimented with optical mixtures at the end of the 19th century. In philosophy, it was the epistemological writings of Maurice Merleau-Ponty that were groundbreaking here.
